Last night we had dinner at Bukit Timah Market

I was originally planning to load up on local fare at Bukit Timah Market before i leave for another semester this coming weekend, but the delicious smell of cheese and herb wafting from this stall was too difficult to resist. The Prosciutto Funghi Pizza was perfect – the crust was light and crisp, the amount of mozarella and parmesan was just right and the shiitake mushrooms were soooOOooo irresistably fragrant. The best part? Its price: $6.90 for the 7″, $8.90 for the 10″. Top-up 30¢ for a takeaway box, but this is as close as it gets to pizza at Peperoni’s for under 10 bucks. Skip the Carbonara, however – it was mediocre at best; the cream base was too salty and sweet yet tasteless all at the same time.

Also, my parents are cute. Just had to share.

Popular for it’s xiao long bao in exotic flavours and colours, but we were drawn back to the restaurant for the second time in two weeks by their original steamed pork dumplings ($9.80 for 10). I swear we’re not boring, the originals are just *that* good. I also liked the steamed pork buns ($3.80 for 3) and the Yang Zhou Fried Rice ($10), both not pictured because I was too busy stuffing my face to take any photographs.

The Signature Tiramisu ($8.50) is worth its price in size but sadly not in taste – instead, opt for the Hazelnut Latte ($6.00). I’m not a coffee connoisseur, but I’m certain that this cuppa is heaps better than the sweet syrupy rubbish that some coffee chains try to serve you.

Conduct some background reading before visiting Auschwitz – first understand its evolution, the intricacies of the system, how the gas chambers came to be, the mindset of the perpetrators from Hitler to the SS to the Kapos in the camp – it will make your visit even more poignant. I liked ‘Auschwitz: The Nazis and ‘The Final Solution’ by Laurence Rees, it is an excellent book, covers in depth the points i mentioned above, insightful, and written in memory of those murdered at Auschwitz.
